Who We Are?

Kenosis Foundation (KF) is a not-for-profit organization and registered (Reg # 166/2013-2014) on 29th June 2013, under Sec.7 of the Indian Trusts Act 1882.  We focus on rural areas and support women and the children of widows, single moms, abuse victims, victims of physical harassment, and disadvantaged, underprivileged and the economically weaker sections of society. Our head office is located in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka State, south part of India.

Conceived by Issac Rayappan, a Catholic missionary from the Catholic religious congregation of Holy Cross Society. He received his masters degree in social work in May of 2006; with a specialization in health and community development projects, as well as organization management. Kenosis is managed by a team of professionals who have previously worked with various corporations and have now dedicated their careers to making a difference in social welfare.

What We Do

We identify and work for causes ranging from child welfare, education, economic empowerment, creating employment opportunities, health and hygiene, life skills education, rural toilet building, and women’s empowerment.  Kenosis is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in rural India.

We do not raise funds for ourselves. We help you donate to a few of our direct community based projects, to make a real difference in India. Where We Work

Our primary focus is on rural and slum communities, where no NGOs and any other organizations worked before or exist today.  We adopted a few remote villages and work in rural districts of Krishnagiri, state of Tamilnadu and the slums of Bangalore city, in the state of Karnataka, India.

Our Beneficiaries

Our first and foremost focus is on rural women and the children of widows, single moms, abuse victims and victims of physical harassment, disadvantaged, underprivileged and economically weaker sections of society.

Our Projects

Microcredit Projects

This project aims to empower women with the skills to establish or expand their own small businesses as a source of livelihood; by providing a small micro-credit loans or grants with no or a small interest. We currently have 493 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from 176 rural villages, with over 7, 518 women.  By establishing their own enterprises, women are able to attain financial freedom by adopting a habit of monthly saving and inter-loaning through women Self-Help Groups. This gives them the opportunity to receive extra income and support their basic needs for survival, health and education of their children.

Educate Underprivileged Child

This micro project aims to provide primary and higher education necessities such as: (uniform, school fees, books, sweater, notebooks, pen, pencil, stationery, etc.) to orphans and underprivileged, poor rural children studying 1st to 12th grade & ages between 5 to 20 years. The children are from 28 remote regions of Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu state, India. The Kenosis Academic Adoption Programs (KAAP) is also intended to provide health and Hygiene, life skills education and give extra coaching classes for children through After School Programs. Our After School Programs teach students habits of doing their homework, resulting in a higher academic performance.

After School Program

The ASP is to provide children a space for educational and creative activities. Games are often focused around positive recreation, awareness, and life skills. We also incorporate English fluency and computer skills program, into the ASP as a part of our curriculum. This program benefits more than 40-50 children from one village, by establishing one centre in each year. We found very good results and performance of children in school by running such centres. We would like to establish a few more centres in other parts of rural communities to avail this opportunity to other children.

Computer Training Centre

Currently, there are no opportunities to learn computer skills, both in the local schools or in the communities. We have been trying to establish the Computer Centre and avail opportunities with English fluency and typing skills. The project aims to purchase 20 new computers to equip 2 centres and to allow five and more neighbouring villages to access each centre. Each centre will provide basic computer based education to primary and middle school children from socially and economically backward migrant families from rural and urban slums. It will also provide computer skills training to youth, increasing their employability. We believe this can help children and youths live a life of dignity, confidence and help arrest the problem of unemployment in our rural areas.

Youth Employment Programs

The drop out ratio and under and unemployment among rural youths continues to increase, especially in the rural areas we serve. The lack of income due to lack of irregular jobs for their parents to earn steady income in these drought areas to support future education of their children.  This results huge dropouts from schooling every year. The project aims to empower youth, 18-24 years old, disabled, underprivileged, underemployed and school dropouts to learn computer skills and three month employment skills. The  Youth Employment Programs (YEP) aims to provide participants with the skills necessary to later receive a full time salaried job or start a business of their own in India. This project equips about 650 youths and school students with computer skills each year. The education we provide gives young people the opportunity to succeed in a career in the IT field, support their families, and create a strong sense of self-worth.

Rural Toilet and Napkin Distribution Projects

About one-fifth of India’s population is in the adolescent age group of 10-19 years. Unfortunately, the special needs of adolescents, particularly adolescent girls, are rarely addressed by the educational, health, and family welfare programs in India. We will provide life skills, sexuality and supplementary education for 5000 adolescent girl students. We also focus on providing sanitary eco-toilets, carrying out home improvements to improve the standards, to prevent and protect girls and women from physical and sexual violence. The  young women, staff and students will be trained in kit maintenance, personal health and hygiene, puberty, reproduction, sexually and non-sexually transmitted infections and diseases, violence against women, sexual abuse, human trafficking and modern day slavery. The project targets rural and urban schools and colleges to help girls learn about their rights, continue their education, find employment, and improve their confidence to make their own decisions.

Why Pay To Volunteer?

This is a FAQ on our Volunteer website! However, KF isn’t like any other recruiting agency or company, which works on profit making.  We are a not-for profit Community Based Organization, and also not a funded organization till date. We really rely 100% on volunteer’s supports only. Just like if you were at home, there are basic living expenses, such as food, accommodation and transportation and so on. The administrative cost is too high to pay volunteers or staff we hire. Therefore, Community Based Organizations like us cannot afford to pay for your living expenses – even if you are working for free.

Program Costs and Info

Our Pricing includes one-time registration cost and actual costs at the location. Average actual expenses are in the range of US $ 22-  US $ 50 per day basis. All of our prices are in USD and weekly basis only. Compared to other organizations, we are very low and affordable with fixing program prices to everyone.  We would be happy to provide you further discounted costs for a group of 5-10 in a group travel.

How To Transfer Money?

You can transfer the money once your application is successfully processed for eligibility criteria. We will then guide you to transfer your money safely.  Upon your payment, we will send you the receipt of your payment and the copy of the receipt will be maintained in KF head office, Bangalore, India for the future referral, accounting and auditing purpose.
